Overtime Scores App

The scores is an all in one sports experience, allowing users to watch live scores, get the latest news around major sports leagues and play daily fantasy games. During my time at Overtime we scoped, design and launched a multitude of features that ranged from new game modes, supporting new types of media, leveling systems, navigation and more. I’ve highlighted the main features and contributions i designed below.

Game Type: Fantasy

Our goal was to build a weekly fantasy league product with our current infrastructure and existing network of influencers. We believed a new game type that casual users are more familiar with and are excited about - specifically, fantasy - will allow us to appeal to a broader audience. It also allowed use to improve on gameplay mechanics of pick em’ game (pools) and address existing pain points.

This was our most successful feature and accomplished our main goals of:

Retention: D7 was 3x better for fantasy than pools.

Conversion: New users converted and played a second contest at a 20% better rate for fantasy than pools.

Engagement: Users are more than 2x more likely to comment or like a comment for a fantasy contest over a pools contest.

Game Type: Pools

Pools is our Pick Em’ style game type. We spent the majority of time iterating on this UX. Users could browse daily pools in a feed, live track their picks, comment with other players, and earn coins based on their results. Through daily contests and special giveaways advertised on Overtime’s social page, we often reached over 4,000 players in our pools.

Scores

My latest contribution was to redesign our scores tab to accommodate overtimes new basketball league. Because we were no longer supporting other leagues and wanted this to be the most convenient way to follow games, new UX was desperately needed. I designed a way to fit all the needed feature requirements that within our existing navigation.

Results

The app was lacking a results experience that properly matched the excitement user felt when they won in out game types. Additionally we need a UX solution for showing results of different game types in one screen, while still being clear where users won their coins an xp from. I prototyped the following designs and settled on these finals through user feedback.

XP / Profile

We added XP to increase incentive and make the gameplay feel more exciting for users. Our main goals were:

  • Make it feel like you're always winning

  • Make individual questions feel more important

  • Give users sense of social capital and progress in app

I redesigned our profile screens to realize these goals and vector illustrated new level/trophy icons.

Additional Screens

Misc features that I helped design including: Create Game flow, Activity feed, Shop, Games the support video uploads.

Vector Art / Animations

I was responsible for all vector artwork and animation in the app.
